The core of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems’ highly ranked programs is the faculty, who are renowned for their teaching, research, and service. In recent years, more than two-thirds of the faculty members have been recognized with some type of teaching and/or research award at the local, national, or international level.

The faculty is consistently rated among the most productive researchers in the Brigham Young University rankings, with the managerial faculty being rated #1 in archival research. Among 1,200 faculty members ranked, current faculty members Karen Sedatole, Ranjani Krishnan, and Mike Shields are among the top managerial researchers since 1990. Many of the faculty serve or have served as editors of the top journals in accounting and information systems.

At the university level, the department is home to many winners of the highest university honors. Current faculty members honored with the Outstanding Faculty Award include Sue Haka, Bill McCarthy, Ed Outslay, Kathy Petroni, Mike Shields, and Vallabh Sambamurthy—the most recent honoree and department chairperson. Charlie Bokemeier and Lynne Zelenski have been recognized with the MSU Distinguished Academic Staff Award.
