Daniel Spadafore joins the Broad College as its inaugural chief of staff, effective November 2021. Spadafore will direct and oversee operational activities, initiatives and projects for the college.
“Dean Sanjay Gupta and the Broad College’s leadership team have engaged in a very thoughtful process to identify the key activities of the inaugural chief of staff, including overseeing staff-related budget and human resource issues, assisting with strategic planning efforts, leading special project efforts and serving as the dean’s liaison between the college and various stakeholders,” Spadafore said.
“As chief of staff, I see myself as a catalyst, integrator, partner, problem-solver and advocate,” he explained. “It will be an honor to help facilitate the work of the Broad College and to ensure the college continues to develop transformational leaders who make business happen.”
Spadafore has an extensive background in higher education administration; he has spent over eight years at Michigan State University in leadership roles in University Advancement, most recently serving as senior director of international advancement for International Studies & Programs. In this role, he oversaw the Office of International Advancement and was highly successful in alumni relations, working closely with Broad faculty, staff and students to connect with our international alumni, stakeholders and donors.
As a seasoned higher education administrator, Spadafore brings leadership experience in institutional advancement, international relations, enrollment management and student development to the Broad College. He is a Spartan alumnus, having earned his master’s degree from MSU in 2009, in addition to earning his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Eastern Michigan University in 2007 and 2019, respectively.
In his new role, Spadafore is eager to hit the ground running and engage with Broad Spartans across the college.
“In the immediate, I want to ensure I have a full understanding of business education and the vision for business education at Michigan State,” he said. “I will actively develop and sustain relationships throughout the college to continually connect the dots and break down silos. My day-to-day will consist of helping to translate the big picture into actionable decisions that help us get to our desired future.”
As the Broad College continues our pursuit of being a top-of-mind business school, Spadafore will help realize this vision. His commitment, passion and energy will ensure success for present and future Broad Spartans.
