Our Corporate and Student relations office has a new look, but our goal is still the same: connect students and employers.

The Corporate and Student Relations Office (CSRO) supports undergraduate education beyond classroom learning. The activities of the office are an integral part of the excellent Supply Chain Management program for which Michigan State University is universally known and respected, and provides a mutual benefit to students, department faculty and companies.

Judy Jacobs, director of the Corporate and Student Relations Office.

The office provides many valuable functions:

  • to act as the liaison between corporate contacts and students seeking internship, co-op and full-time employment opportunities
  • to organize and manage the activities of the MSU Supply Chain Management Council
  • to serve as advisor to the undergraduate student Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA)
  • to act as a liaison between corporate contacts and SCM Faculty for academic endeavors

In its role of acting as a liaison between corporate contacts and students seeking internship, co-op and full-time employment opportunities; the CSRO staff strives to get to know MSU Supply Chain students on a personal level to better match them with our corporate partners.  Working with the Broad College Lear Career Services Center, the CSRO assists students with resume development, job search skills development, and scheduling interviews.

The MSU SCM Council is a way for companies to further their relationship with our department.  In addition to visible recognition on the department’s lobby wall, the council members are given opportunities to meet with our faculty and top students.  They are also provided the chance to speak at either a session, student meeting, or leadership event.  An annual meeting is held in January prior to the SCMA Career Fair.

The undergraduate student Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) is a student-run MSU Registered Student Organization (RSO) in the MSU Department of Student Life. The Director of the CSRO is the official faculty advisor of SCMA.   In this role the office oversees the activities of the association and advises the Executive Board of SCMA. This student group is one of the largest student organizations on the MSU campus with annual membership exceeding 500 students.  The group holds informational membership meetings twice per month, sponsors trips twice per year to various companies, and conducts an annual SCM career fair attended by over 125 companies.  A three-day Leadership Academy is co-hosted by the CSRO and SCMA to provide leadership skills to students.  This Academy is required for those students interested in holding office or heading up activities in SCMA.

The office also serves as a link between company representatives who are interested developing relationships with the faculty in the Supply Chain management department.  These activities may include participation in research projects and ongoing studies as well as bringing a practitioner’s perspective of current best practices to students through classroom guest lectures.

The CSRO offers a course, SCM 293 Cooperative Education for Business Students during Spring and Fall semesters for students who are away from campus, working full-time on co-op assignments. This course offers integration of pre-professional educational employment experiences in industry and government with knowledge and processes taught in the student’s academic program.
