Harold Sollenberger, professor emeritus of accounting and information systems, has been named a recipient of the MSU Faculty Emeriti Association’s “Outstanding Contributions by an Individual Faculty Emeritus/Emerita Award” for 2015–16.
This award recognizes a retired MSU faculty member (given the honorific “emeritus” or “emerita”) who demonstrates an unmatched commitment to serving the university through contributions to a unit or program, to the MSU community, or to fostering the engagement of MSU faculty emeriti.
Sollenberger was on the MSU faculty for more than 40 years, serving as chair of the accounting, finance, and insurance faculties and as associate dean for MBA programs. He has remained active in campus life since his 2009 retirement.
His tenacity and understanding of the university’s workings made him the right person to serve as interim executive director of MSU Dubai in 2010, overseeing the campus’s closing. He worked with affected departments to ensure students impacted by the closing would complete their degrees.
He co-authored History of the Accounting Doctoral Program, Broad College of Business and served on the planning committee for the program’s 50th anniversary in 2012.
His ongoing involvement in campus life includes presenting the Nest Egg Game at Grandparents University, connecting former students and donors with the university, volunteering through the Office for International Students and Scholars and Community Volunteers for International Programs to support international students, and supporting the Global Festival World Gift Shop.
Sue Haka, EY Endowed Professor of Accounting, nominated him for the award.
Sollenberger was recognized at the university retirement luncheon for faculty and academic staff on Tuesday, April 12.
