One common misconception is around frequent flier miles. “People can often misunderstand the fluidity of ‘miles as currency.’ The value of those miles vary considerably based upon time of the year and the revenue management model being applied by the airlines. The opportunities to make other purchases (or use the miles) for different goods is simply a way of getting debt (miles owed) off the books,” McCall said.
