There is an ongoing challenge to attract talent to the many factors of supply chain management. Dr. David Closs and Dr. Judy Whipple are working to change that. Together with professors from Arizona State and MIT, they developed The Supply Chain STEM program to introduce young students to the field of supply chain. The program was successful, introducing over 15,000 U.S. and international students to the field.
Together the professors created three activities to target Elementary, Middle School, and High School students. When APICS became aware of the initiative they decided to incorporate it into their program. The Supply Chain STEM Educational Outreach Program was introduced at the September APICS conference. The program now has a goal to reach more than 100,000 students by 2020.
