The Eli Broad College of Business is proud to announce Mark Rieth, an accomplished entrepreneur and committed Michigan State University alum as the speaker for the 2025 Spring Commencement ceremony. After earning his degree in business administration from MSU in 1989, Rieth began his professional journey at Toyota. However, he quickly realized his passion for entrepreneurship and set out to follow his own path.

In 2005, Rieth acquired Atwater Brewery, a small craft brewery in Detroit. Drawing on his life savings and leveraging his MSU network for business support, Rieth transformed Atwater into Michigan’s fourth-largest craft brewery, known for its award-winning beverages and strong community ties. His success in the brewing industry did not stop there; Rieth later founded FÜL Beverage, a company focused on non-alcoholic craft beers and functional energy drinks. He also bought a stake in Lansing Brewing Company and recently revitalized Velvet Peanut Butter, a Detroit brand with deep local roots.

Rieth’s entrepreneurial success is matched by his dedication to giving back to his alma mater. Through his generosity, he established the Mark F. Rieth Scholarship for Entrepreneurial Studies, which provides opportunities for students to pursue careers in business. He is also an active member of the Broad Advisory Board, where he helps shape the future of the college and mentors aspiring student entrepreneurs. His involvement extends beyond business, as he has made significant contributions to MSU Athletics and continues to be a valued partner to the university.

“It is an incredible honor to return to Michigan State University as the 2025 commencement speaker for the Broad College of Business. MSU has played such a pivotal role in my journey, and I’ll never forget being part of the first class to graduate at the Breslin Center. To now stand before the Class of 2025 in that same arena and celebrate their achievements is truly special. I can’t wait to share this moment with them and inspire the next generation of Spartans as they embark on their own paths.”-Rieth.

Rieth’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, networking, and a relentless work ethic. His story is a reflection of the Spartan spirit—proving that with determination and the support of a strong community, anything is possible. His ongoing commitment to MSU underscores his belief in the university’s ability to shape the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
