Gretchen Whitmer to the state of Michigan’s Commission for Logistics and Supply Chain Collaboration. His term began Nov. 19, 2025, and will continue at the pleasure of the governor through no later than Nov. 19, 2029.
Miller’s appointment underscores Michigan’s commitment to strengthening its logistics infrastructure, supporting industry growth and ensuring that the state remains a national leader in supply chain innovation and economic development.
“I’m honored to be selected to be a part of the Commission for Logistics and Supply Chain Collaboration,” Miller said. “I look forward to the opportunity to leverage my experience with economic data to help inform policies concerning supply chain management.”
A national expert on freight transportation, economic trends and supply chain dynamics, Miller brings both deep academic expertise and real-world insight to the seven-member commission. He previously served a three-year term as interim chairperson of MSU’s Department of Supply Chain Management, home to the nation’s top-ranked supply chain programs.
Miller’s research focuses on trucking industry safety and productivity, pricing dynamics, driver turnover, and transportation activity, as well as broader macroeconomic trends across manufacturing, wholesale and retail sectors. Miller is widely published across leading academic journals, including Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Journal of Business Logistics, where he also serves as a senior editor. He also holds associate editorial roles with several other top journals in the field.
Beyond academia, Miller is recognized nationally as a trusted commentator on supply chain issues. He regularly provides expert analysis on LinkedIn and speaks at industry webinars about inventories, pricing trends, manufacturing output and freight movement. His insights are frequently sought by major news outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, NBC News, NPR and Reuters, as well as leading industry publications such as Journal of Commerce, FreightWaves and Supply Chain Dive.
Created under Public Act 76 of 2013 and housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Commission for Logistics and Supply Chain Collaboration advises state agencies on freight transportation and supply chain management policy. It also leads collaboration with local, state and regional governments, and with the Canadian government, on matters related to economic development, trade, transportation infrastructure and supply chain competitiveness.
