This past academic year Professor Ronald F. Cichy announced his retirement. Dr. Cichy earned his BA (1972) and MBA (1977) in Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management from Michigan State University, and his Ph.D. (1981) in Food Science and Human Nutrition from MSU as well. His research expertise spans decades with a focus on food safety and quality, leadership practices, and private clubs. Dr. Cichy and his research teams have studied technology and social media, service innovations, and sustainable business practices. Further private club research has examined ways private club volunteers (boards and committees) collaborate with club leadership; financial performance linked to board size and involvement in strategy; and leadership evaluations of private club boards of directors. Dr. Cichy’s official retirement date is May 16, 2019.
Most recently Professor A.J. Singh announced his retirement. Dr. Singh earned his BA (1978) from the University of Delhi and a diploma in Hotel Management (1980) from Oberoi School of Hotel Management, both in India. He received his MS (1984) degree from Purdue University in Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management, and his Ph.D. (1998) in Park, Recreation and Tourism from Michigan State University. Dr. Singh’s research interests includes international hotel development and management, hospitality business real estate investments and financial management. The common theme across his research interests is value creation. Dr. Singh has requested leave to retirement beginning August 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020 and his official retirement date is July 1, 2020.
We thank both Dr. Cichy and Dr. Singh for their years of dedication and service. We look forward to seeing them at many future School and alumni events.
