Across industries today, data is a powerful and necessary tool for business. For professionals looking to sharpen their analytical skills, the Broad College of Business’ M.S. in Marketing Research is the best training ground to master the art of research through world-class programming and real-world application and accelerate a career in marketing research.

Jessica Richards, director of the M.S. in Marketing Research program, says graduates are primed to thrive in an ever-expanding industry.

The program’s strong reputation is advanced by the latest numbers from QS World University Rankings. According to the QS Business Master’s Rankings 2023, released in September, Broad’s MSMR program remains No. 1 in the world for marketing research–specific programs.

“This incredible moment is the fruition of a rich history of the highest excellence and dedication from our MSU M.S. in Marketing Research faculty, alumni, students and expert board executive leaders of nearly 100 top companies worldwide, combined with supreme organizational flexibility and agility,” Jessica Richards, director of the program, said.

Ayalla Ruvio, academic director of the program and associate professor of marketing, echoed this by adding, “This great accomplishment is attributed to that hard work of our wonderful students, faculty and staff that make this program truly extraordinary.”

The ranking, which identifies the top master’s programs in marketing overall, places the MSMR program at No. 5 in North America and No. 23 among all master’s programs in marketing globally.

Suman Basuroy, chairperson of the department of marketing, noted, “Socrates had said, ‘The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but building on the new.’ The success and innovation of the MSMR program in the marketing department at Broad have relied on the collective efforts of faculty, alumni, staff, advisory board and students by looking toward the future, and building on the new.”

Broad’s program has received accolades as the best master’s degree in marketing research in the United States and globally for years — it’s the No. 1 ranked marketing research program in the Best Master’s in Marketing rankings from both Eduniversal and TFE Times. In addition, the Broad College’s online master’s programs — including the M.S. in Marketing Research — are ranked in the top 10 among public universities, according to U.S. News & World Report.

“The insights and analytics industry is in the midst of tremendous expansion and transformation as new technology-enabled approaches are introduced and new companies enter the field. I think a major part of our program’s success,” Michael Brereton, fixed-term faculty of marketing and founding chair of the program’s advisory board, explained, “is the industry recognition that we are preparing the next generation of leadership to thrive amid this change; leaders who can apply time-tested marketing research principles while simultaneously embracing the emerging business practices. It’s an exciting opportunity for all of us.”

Richards added, “Our M.S. in Marketing Research program is endlessly evolving, ensuring our graduates are ultimately primed to thrive in an ever-expanding industry with infinite career possibilities.”

QS Business Master’s rankings collect data directly from business schools and via reputational surveys of employers and academics. Employability, value for money, thought leadership, alumni outcomes and class and faculty diversity are key indicators in the final criteria.
