Utilize the academic support offered by Michigan State and the Broad College of Business. A host of free support services are available to students—individual and group peer tutoring, academic skills workshops, as well as spaces to gather and study with peers.

Broad College academic advisors are coordinators of your undergraduate experience. We provide critical information about academic programs, degree requirements, education abroad, leadership development, career exploration, policies and procedures, and campus resources.

The Multicultural Business Program offers free tutorial services to undergraduate students during the fall and spring semester on a first-come, first-serve basis. This service provides approximately 200-350 students each semester with support in 10 core business courses. Our tutors help students review concepts and practice problem solving and applications for their specific course.

Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is committed to providing and connecting you to a wide array of services and resources to address a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, stress management, homesickness, adjustment or acculturation, relationships, issues around race, gender, and sexual orientation (LGBTQ), substance abuse, traumatic experiences, eating or body image concerns, and other personal mental health concerns. These may include short-term individual counseling, group counseling, medication, or referrals to other services.

MLC’s goal is to bring free, fun and friendly math help to the students at MSU. Surveys show that students do significantly better if they regularly keep up with their homework and seek help early. MLC tutors do not do homework for you. Instead, they help you understand concepts and put you on the right track quickly to help you succeed when you are in class, on your own. MLC also operates in the neighborhoods.

Group study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis on the second and third floors of the West Wing of the Main Library. Preference is given to groups. If all rooms are occupied, a group may ask a single user to move out of a room (even if he/she is waiting for other group members to arrive). You will need to use your MSU NetID to reserve a room, and you must have your picture ID to check into the room at your reserved time.

During the fall and spring semesters when MSU classes are in session, the Main Library building is open 24 hours a day from Sunday at noon to Friday at 10 p.m. They are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Office of the University Ombudsperson offers an environment where you can talk with a confidential and impartial resource about a complaint, conflict, or problem. This includes both academic and nonacademic concerns, including administrative issues, workplace issues, or any concern that may relate to Michigan State University students. The Ombudsperson will interpret and explain university policies and procedures. You can speak freely because the Office of the University Ombudsperson offers an environment where you can talk with a confidential and impartial resource about a complaint, conflict, or problem.

Part of the neighborhoods’ mission is to provide access to the available resources on campus and to help students reach their full potential and have a successful college career. Each neighborhood has a variety of resources accessible through the Engagement Centers, including academic advising, math and writing center tutors, fitness classes and more. Each neighborhood is unique. River Trail neighborhood has the CSE 101 workshops. Brody and Holden have EC 201 and 202 tutoring, while Hubbard has an economics help room.

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) provides support to Michigan State University’s international students, scholars, and families. Student support services include advising on and facilitating compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, conducting programming to help students integrate into and adjust to the academic, cultural, and social life of MSU, serving as a liaison with U.S. government agencies, foreign embassies, sponsors, and educational foundations that support international students and scholars.

The primary purpose of the Office of Supportive Services is to assist students to prepare for the challenges of higher education. OSS works to enable students to develop coping and self-management survival skills for success within the university. OSS also provides motivation, academic advising, social counseling, personal planning, career guidance and skill-enrichment seminars.

In the Social Science Help Rooms, students join a community of learners where they can receive free and unlimited tutorial assistance in select social science courses. We offer a variety of support options for students, including drop-in tutoring, appointments and review sessions. Please check your course to see which options are available, and select the ones that best meet your needs. All are free and available to any students enrolled in the courses. Support is available for CJ, EC, ISS and SOC.

Support related to admissions, financial aid, and residency reclassification is available.

Free English conversation lessons for Michigan State University’s international students and scholars and their adult family members. VETP classes provide a friendly and relaxed learning environment in which participants can try out their oral English and practice their listening skills.
